Stone Balanced Lion -   AKA "Two Of Earth" for the 78 Tarot Elemental Deck. Two Of Pentacles is  an Earth card, So I wanted to include lots of stones, rocks, moss,  vines, trees, etc. I decided to go with a stone lion for the figure  because I've always wanted to paint a lion. I made his tail extra long  in a sort of a half figure 8 to represent the infinity symbol from the  traditional tarot card. To me the extra long tail makes him more magical  & not just a typical looking lion. The two pentacles are sliced  tree stump medallions with a carved sun on one & moon on the other  with the glow around them filling in the rest of the infinity symbol.  Since he is a magical being the lion's tail is starting to turn back to  normal from being stone. He's standing on balanced rocks with moss &  greenery on them. The background is full of earthy greenery and wavy  vines. Two shadowed birds representing the ships and ocean waves of the  traditional tarot card.

I hope your New Year is off to a great start! This isn't all of the pieces I finished in 2018 but it is most of them & my favorites :) I also made a lot of new Pins & Pin Lineart and a few new Coloring Pages too! Over all I'm really proud of how much & what I created in 2018 :) I think my skill level took a little leap forward. I'm hoping to complete even more new art this year!

I have been super busy so far this new year getting organized, setting up my planner for all my big plans this year, working on Patreon stuff & lots of house cleaning & decluttering ( I have this weird thing where I want to go into my new year in a nice freshly cleaned & decluttered house O_o )

Two Of Pentacles - 78 Tarot - Rough Sketch

 

Two Of Pentacles - 78 Tarot - Rough Sketch :) This deck is Elemental and my card is an Earth card, So stones, rocks, moss, vines, trees, etc ;) I decided to go with a stone lion because I've always wanted to paint a lion. I made his tail extra long in a sort of a half figure 8 to represent the infinity symbol from the traditional card. To me the extra long tail makes him more magical & not just a typical looking lion. The two pentacles are sliced tree stump medallions with a carved sun on one & moon on the other.  The pentacles will have a glow around them filling in the rest of the infinity symbol. They will be floating, one inside each side of the figure 8 pattern & will be a be a nice contrast to the stone lion and the glowing around his tail. His tail won't all be stone but a regular lion's tail like he's turning back from being stone. He's standing on balanced rocks that will have moss & greenery on them. I plan on making them taller at the bottom since the  card is so long & that's where the 78 Tarot Card Title banner will be covering too. The background will probably be something with lots of greenery and vines etc again good contrast against the grey stone lion & rocks. Some wavy vines & 2 shadowed birds will represent the ships and ocean waves of the traditional card. I think that just about covers everything. I haven't thought of a title yet but there's lots of time for that.

I've already got the thumbs up from the 78 Tarot ladies Yay! I hope you like what I've come up with for my card too. I've set this aside for a while so I can work on a few smaller paintings in time for DragonCon.

The Kickstarter for 78 Tarot Mythical - Tarot of the Legendary is going on Now! This is the 5th deck created by 78 Tarot and I have been honored to be a part of all of them. For the Mythical Deck I created the "Ace of Wands".  A positive card full of personal power and hope for the future. I interpreted it as the Mythological Japanese Monster Cat called Bakeneko/Nekomata. Nekomatas are known for having forked tails of fire and living in the mountains. My Nekomata is confident ready to take on the whole world or at least this forest & Japanese Castle!

Bakeneko/Nekomata Rough Sketch for 78 Tarot Mythical

For my 78 Tarot Mythical Card I'm painting the Mythological Japanese Demon Cat called Bakeneko/Nekomata. I haven't decided what to call him yet exactly. From my research it seems Nekomata "Forked Tail" and Bakeneko "Changed Cat" are very similar. I've read a lot of info about them both & the sites each explain them both a little differently. One site even calls Nekomata a breed of Bakeneko? It's all rather confusing to me. I'm leaning towards Nekomata since he does have the forked tail & is in the mountains but I'm not sure.

My card is the Ace of Wands. It's a positive card full of personal power, confidence, enthusiasm, new beginnings, hope for the future, ready to take on the world! I used a lot of the symbolism and card elements from the traditional Ace of Wands Cards- I’ve got the fire, the Japanese castle in the distance, the forest will be in the background. The bamboo wand with the new growth sprouts on it. The clouds from the original card are in his kimono and the blue of his kimono will represent the river.

I absolutely LOVE my sketch & I can't wait to start painting :D I hope you like it too. I have less that a month to get this whole painting done so I have got to get moving on this asap!

What's Up Next for Me? I will be painting my 78 Tarot painting asap! I also have a lot of boring behind the scenes art business stuff that has to be taken care of this month for the new year. Cy and Sal Space Explorers - AKA The "Page of Wands" for the 78 Tarot Astral Deck. The Page of Wands is a fire card representing exploration, discovery, enthusiasm & a free spirit. I decided to portray my Page of Wands as Cyborg Explorer Kitten "Cy" with his Space Salamander sidekick "Sal"! Cy & Sal are excited to explore this unknown purple planet with it's three mountains & distant star filled galaxies. The red feather of accomplishment from the traditional card is symbolized as part of Cy's red cyborg eye. I brought the symbol of the tail chasing salamander from the traditional card to life by Sal riding on the Cy's tail. The wand has many fire elements such as the moon glyph for fire, under that the fiery healing crystal Carnelian, and then the elemental symbol for Fire. Cy & Sal are enthusiastic space explorers with a passion for discovering their destiny!
