A cute little video of our baby kittens playing...

They are getting used to the bathroom & us too. The little white kitty purrs now when I pet her and the little brown one isn't even hissing very much anymore.

Zoe went to the vet again yesterday...

I noticed that Zoe was breathing kind of heavier Wednesday night, like almost twice as fast as Tabby. Noting else was wrong with her though, she was still eating drinking, up and around etc. So I took her to the vet first think Thursday morning. They kept her for observation and to check her out. Of course I'm worried that it's something with her heart like Leo had. They did an x-ray and that all looked good, no enlarging from the outside of the heart, lungs looked fine, no fluid or anything. Her chest sounds fine and so does her heart. So why the weird breathing? The vet thought she could of caught a respiratory infection from the kittens. I have them in the bathroom thinking that was fine but she says the respiratory infection could travel in the air. She also checked her urine again and she does have another UTI. So right now she is back on antibiotics for the UTI & possible respiratory infection. If that doesn't help with her breathing she said it may be her heart :( There is another form of heart disease where the heart walls thicken from the inside. This would not be visible on an x-ray. It would require an expensive ultrasound from a specialist to detect and then she says the treatments won't fix her. She said she wasn't trying to scare me but just being truthful and even went so far as to say that Zoe could just drop dead from this if that's what she has :( How scary is that! Even the emergency vet that took care of Leo before he died said that cats with heart conditions even when caught early don't do well. I honestly don't know what to do with her if she doesn't have the respiratory infection and it could be this other heart problem. Would or could the vet treat her for that without the ultrasound that's so expensive? I don't know. I'm hoping that she gets better over the weekend once the antibiotics kick in. If not I'll be talking to the vet again Monday to see what our options are :(

We've got Baby Kittens!! :)

Here are the two kittens we got from the dumpster at my dad's work. One of the wild cats there had 5 kittens. They have about 6 cats living in the woods where my dad works. He's looking into trapping them and getting them spayed/neutered and then releasing them.



They are both girls. The little girl on the left is a little smaller than her sister. She has beautiful markings. So far Angel has taken to her the most. To me the little girl on the right, kind of looks like a little girl version on Leo :) She's a feisty little thing.

We haven't named them yet. I'm trying to find some names that would be for a pair that like go together. Like Lucy & Ethel (can't use that cuz i had gerbils named after I Love Lucy years ago) or Peeka & Boo. Ian said Pearl & Sandy (from Spongebob LOL!) You get the idea ;) I'm open to suggestions! I'm sure the perfect names will click when I hear/see them ;D

They are still a little wild and will hiss when you first go to pick them up. I know they'll settle down after a few days. Tabby & Leo were the same way when we first rescued them too.

They look a little rough now but give them a few weeks and they'll be all healthy! They both are getting treatments for their eyes, worms & fleas. The vet thought they looked pretty good overall. I am keeping them separated from Tabby, Zoe & Buddy for a while and will introduce them very slowly. They still have more vet trips and tests they need to have. So the hall bathroom is theirs for now ;)

I also got meds for the other 3 kittens still at my dad's work. (2 of those are still looking for homes too! There is a beautiful black kitten and the "twin" of the little tabby one we got. Let me know if you'd like one!) Here's some pixs of the other kittens, Here and Here

Back from the Vet with a Kitty Update...

Tabby's blood work for the thyroid came back high again (Hyperthyroidism). This was after 1 week of being off her meds since her last blood work showed her thyroid went the other direction and was extremely low (Hypothyroidism). So 1 pill twice a day or 1/2 a pill twice a day makes her sick and is too much meds for her, Now we are trying 1/2 a pill once a day and hopefully that will be good for her. Other than that she doing very good, eating well and gaining back the weight she lost.

Zoe's blood work showed nothing out of the ordinary. They checked everything, blood sugar, thyroid, kidney function, liver, electrolytes, blood cell count, everything. The only thing she did find was her liver was a little tiny bit high but for her age that could just be normal. Zoe has started eating and drinking some on her own but not enough. I have been feeding her what she still needs to eat. She is feeling better and fighting me on the feeding, locking her jaws and growling at me. Where before she just didn't care because she was too sick to fight back. So that's a good thing, she's getting better BUT a Bad thing since I'm having a very hard time getting the rest of the food she needs to eat each day in her. Today at the vet they gave her more fluids, another short term steroid shot and some pills that should get her appetite back up. Hopefully she'll start eating and drinking on her own like she used to. *fingers crossed*

Kitty Update, Now Zoe's sick...

With all that was going on with Tabby I didn't notice that Zoe had slowly quit eating her dried food. So I realize this last week and at first I wasn't worried since she had been eating a lot more of the wet food I was giving to them. Last Thursday I see she is not eating the wet food either any more, only licking the juice and sauce and not drinking much water either. So Friday I took Zoe to the vet. Now things have flipped and Zoe is sick. Remember me posting about weaned her off of the steroids she was on to keep her from getting bladder infections back in Feb through March because they weren't good for her? Friday we find out she has a monster bladder infection. The vet started her on antibiotics & gave her fluids. She had none of the normal symptoms of a bladder infection so I had no idea this time. The vet expected Zoe to be feeling better within 24 hours. That didn't happen, things got worse over the weekend, she quit eating & drinking completely. All she wanted to do was curl up and sleep. Well cats can't go without eating! So I have been force feeding her. I have to get 1 can of food (5.5 oz) and a bunch of water in her every 24 hours, it works out to 1/4 a can 4 times a day. It really sucks but she's my baby & if I don't her liver would shut down and she'd die. Monday I had scheduled an afternoon vet appointment for Tabby for her Thyroid blood work. I just went ahead and took Tabby & Zoe super early as soon as the vet's office opened. Tabby got her blood taken and that was all for her, she's gained a little weight back and is doing much better right now. For Zoe, the vet gave her more fluids, a small steroid shot to see if that will get her to start eating again and took blood to see if something else is wrong with her. I also got some NutriCal paste (nutritional supplement) to mix in the food I'm feeding her. Right now I just have to give her the antibiotics, keep her fed and get water in her. She seems a little better today. She ate some treats on her own and also has licked the sauce off of her wet food this morning too. That's still not enough food for her so I'm still feeding her too. *sigh* I know they are getting old but they aren't that old yet, Zoe is 12 and Tabby 14. I just want them both the stay healthy and feel good. I should get back Zoe's blood work today and Tabby's tomorrow....

Vet trip today (Kitty & Doggie Stuff)....

I had an appointment at the Vet today for Buddy (our dog). He is having major allergy problems right now with all the pollen and stuff in the air. His skin gets all red & itchy. He started chewing his fur off in patches and nothing we tried here at home was helping him. So Buddy is now on Prednisone & antibiotics. He also has a special shampoo to wash his infected areas. Poor guy! The Vet said the meds should kick in tomorrow and then he will start feeling much better. I also decided to take Tabby today and have he looked over too. She's still not eating like she should and even turned down roast beef & turkey from my sandwich today. That is soooooo not like her at all. Well she has lost almost a pound since the beginning of February. That's not good. Even though she seems to be drinking lots of water she was slightly dehydrated. So she got fluids today and antibiotics just incase it is something to do with her liver. They also took some blood to run another wellness profile on her and see if that will tell what's going on with her. We'll find out about the blood work Monday. I’m worried, I hope it’s nothing serious!

Kitty Stuff, Just talked to the Vet about Tabby.....

Tabby (my kitty with the thyroid condition (Hyperthyroidism), has been taking 1/2 a Methimazole pill twice a day for a few months now. She was doing really well on the pills but lately not so much. She has gotten extremely picky about her food. I have been trying so many different wet and dry foods to find something she will eat. Some of them she will eat once or twice and then turn her nose up at them. Others she won't even try at all. The only thing i have found that she really likes is the water from people Tuna mixed with her dry food that she used to like to eat. It's probably only a matter of time before she decides she doesn't want that anymore either. She has a bunch of other symptoms too, seems cold all the time, drinking lots of water, licking her lips and swallowing a lot. The Vet says that all of this can be side effects from her meds. That they can make her nauseous upset her tummy and possibly make her Anorexic. In Tabby's case this isn't good since she has a history of just stopping eating. We are going to try a few things and hopefully get her back on track and feeling better. First, we are going to try is to give her the full pill once a day instead of 1/2 the pill twice a day. This should keep the nauseous feeling down some and hopefully help her tummy feel better. Then she is allowed to have the food she like with the Tuna juice all the time. I had read that it was bad for her so I was worried about giving it to her. The Vet checked this out for me and thinks it will be just fine. I have to keep a close eye on her weight and make sure she doesn't lose anymore. *fingers crossed* I hope all of this helps her. I feel bad that she feels sick. It must suck to feel nauseous all day long everyday. No wonder she doesn't want to eat. Anyone else have a picky cat? What does your cat like to eat?

We had a great time and I did really well. Can't wait to be back next year! I met so many people and heard so many cat stories too. Jessica, it was so nice to finally meet you IRL! You are a doll! New Art "Steampunk Valentine", New Zazzle Items & Sales, Upcoming Appearance @ MegaCon

My first update of the New Year! Where to begin?, I have had a very rocky start to my new year. The short version, First my computer fried New Years Day. I spent the next few weeks getting a new computer built and all set up so I could get back to work. Next, a few more business setbacks and finally, I'm now back to work! Worst of all we had to say goodbye to my kitty Leo. We didn't even know he was sick and there was nothing we could do. Leo passed away on January 23rd and we miss him very much. I have updated his page on my website with my journal post about his illness and passing. His page will remain on my site as a Memorial to Captain Leo. Here's Leo's Page.

The next painting in my Cat Nips collection. A chubby little calico steampunk cat wearing her Victorian heart locket. In her hand a skeleton key, she's giving you the key to her heart. This painting is very different from all of my others. This painting has burnt edges to give it an old vintage look. The white border shown is only for the online photo. That is why the size is listed as approximately 8 x 10 because the burnt edges made it slightly smaller.

My Kitties!

After what happened with Leo we decided to take Zoe & Tabby and get them full senior cat checkups. We went to the new vet my mom has been using because she is really good. She checked them all over and took blood and urine for testing. The lab work came back on both of them. Turns out Tabby has Hyperthyroidism and I have started her on meds for that. I hope she responds well to the meds. *fingers crossed* Zoe, as many of you know has what we thought were chronic UTI problems and has been on meds for that for years. The meds she was put on by our previous vet were a type of steroid that have caused Zoe to gain a lot of weight. Not good because she could develop Diabetes. So our new vet is suggesting we wean Zoe off of her meds and try some diet changes to canned food and more water in her diet. She thinks the UTIs are not UTIs but really Interstitial Cystitis which she believes can be treated with just diet change and more water. Hopefully that is the case *fingers crossed* Overall they are very healthy and the rest of their blood work and labs looked great. So I'm very happy about that. Yes, my pets have more health issuesand are more meds than my whole family combined LOL! I love my furbabies!! I need them to be well!

My sweet Captain Leo.

Friday, I noticed that I thought he was breathing a little heavier but thought it was just because he was purring. All you had to do is look at him and he would start purring. He was still up and around begging for catnip, eating, sitting in the open window, he seemed fine. Later that night I noticed that he was breathing heavy all the time so I decided to take him to the Emergency Vet Hospital. It was after 10 at night on Friday and that is the only vet open. Dewey was working and couldn't leave, my mom was tired and didn't want to go with me. Neither of them thought it was that serious. I thought it was so I left to take him by myself. I wasn't even out of my neighborhood and my car got a flat tire. So I called my mom and she came and drove me to the vet with Leo. That flat tire turned out to be the best thing because I could not of done this all alone. I got there & started to signed in, the guy at the desk took one look at him and said he needed to take him back asap. I waited what seemed like forever and the vet lady came in to talk to me. She said Leo had severe congestive heart failure & his lungs were filling with fluids. She said he had probably been hiding his pain as cats usually do that and that is why I didn't notice anything wrong with him sooner. The medicine that she put him on when they took him to the back along with the oxygen wasn't working as well as she had hoped. At his age and the how bad his condition was, even if they would of been able to pull him through this he would of only had 3-6 months to live at the most and his quality of life would not be the same. She felt it was best for Leo that we end his suffering and not put him through all of what would of been necessary for those few months. So after talking to Dewey, my mom and my dad we decide that the vet was right and did what was best for Leo. They brought him back in the room with oxygen so he could breathe and I said goodbye. Dewey & Ian picked Leo up Saturday afternoon and we buried him in our yard next to Pookie Bear :(

Leo had changed so much in the last few years. He was no longer the super skittish scaredy cat. He was out and about around the house and even around the dog. He found he like to eat little pieces of people food and loved to be petted, even by Angel. He had the loudest purr. My bedroom was still his favorite place and any time one of us would lay on the bed he was there two seconds later purring and wanting to be petted. I just wish Leo had broken out of his scared shell sooner so he could of had more years like this but I'm glad his last few years with us was probably his happiest.
